„Ein reiner Ton auf dem Kontrabass ist ein reiner Zufall!“ – im plattdeutschen Urtext: „’N reinen Ton op’n Kunterbass is ’n reinen Tofall!“: Diese Äußerung stammt von Johann Jakob Brahms, der in Hamburg als Hornist und Kontrabassist wirkte und obendrein der Vater von Johannes Brahms war. Vater Brahms hat damit eine der Schwierigkeiten des vom Violone (der Kontrabassgambe) weiterentwickelten Instruments (noch heute wird beim Streichen der Bogen wie bei einer Gambe und nicht wie bei einem Cello gehalten) gut beschrieben.
